Beyond the Classroom to provide free back to school supplies for 300 children from disadvantaged homes in Bariga, Lagos.

Many of us can remember how exciting it was on the first day of school: new clothes, new pencils, a new backpack. Most of us also know, however, that for a lot of children who live in slums, a new school term is often filled with reluctance and anxiety because they will not have the necessary tools to start the school term with.

For us at Beyond the Classroom, we believe that every child deserves to start the school year with the tools they need to succeed. But for too many poor children, school supplies are an impossible luxury their families simply can’t afford. Finding the money for food and shelter is a constant struggle, so imagine the stress a parent must feel when they remember the long school list and school fees.  We want to send 300 children back to school with some of the basic school supplies they need.

Back to school project will provide school supplies for 300 children in Ilaje, Bariga area of Lagos State. A ‘back to school’ pack for a child will include; A pair of sandal, 2 pairs of white socks, 5 exercise books and a math-set.  This project will benefit both parent and children as, the children will begin the school year with the supplies they need and the financial burden on struggling families is eased.

The event is slated to take place as follows;

Venue: 28, Ogbere street, off Obadiah Street, Ilaje Bariga Lagos
Date: Saturday 29th, September 2012
Time: 2pm
Dress code: Jeans and White T-shirt
